CCT Bike Racks
Cobb Community Transit is pleased to announce that bicycle racks have been installed on the entire CCT bus fleet. Installation was completed in early November 2001. Cobb Community Transit or CCT is one of the first public transit agencies in the state to provide this type of service to its customers. Cobb County takes pride in being a leader in implementing programs designed to reduce the number of single occupancy vehicles on the roadways, which will ultimately improve regional air quality.
In July of 1999, federal money became available for this program. Cobb County competed with other counties/municipalities and was ultimately awarded $30,000 to implement the program utilizing Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) funds. CMAQ funds were also used to purchase free standing loop bike racks which have been installed at CCT Transfer Centers. When implementing a new program such as this, safety is always a top priority. The bike racks are mounted on the front of the buses and hold two bicycles. These racks are designed to allow riders to load their bikes from curbside. Most riders will be able to load and unload their buses in less than 20 seconds, which will minimize any schedule delays. All CCT drivers have received the recommended safety training. Additionally, with a front-loading design, the driver is visually able to monitor activities. CCT is proud to implement a program designed with the inter-modal commuter in mind. Cobb hopes to make bicycling a more viable means of commuting. We invite you to view our For questions or more information, please contact Cobb DOT at (770) 528-3659.
