Bike Racks on CCT
Cobb Community Transit is pleased to announce that bicycle racks have been installed on the entire CCT bus fleet. Installation was
completed in early November 2001. Cobb Community Transit or CCT is one of the first public transit agencies in the state to provide this
type of service to its customers. Cobb County takes pride in being a leader in implementing programs designed to reduce the number of
single occupancy vehicles on the roadways, which will ultimately improve regional air quality.
In July of 1999, federal money became available for this program. Cobb County competed with other
counties/municipalities and was ultimately awarded $30,000 to implement the program utilizing Congestion
Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) funds. CMAQ funds were also used to purchase free standing
loop bike racks which have been installed at CCT Transfer Centers.
When implementing a new program such as this, safety is always a top priority. The bike racks are mounted on the front of the buses and hold two bicycles. These racks are designed to allow riders to load their bikes from curbside. Most riders will be able to load and unload their buses in less than 20 seconds, which will minimize any schedule delays. All CCT drivers have received the recommended safety training. Additionally, with a front-loading design, the driver is visually able to monitor activities.
CCT is proud to implement a program designed with the inter-modal commuter in mind. Cobb hopes to make bicycling a
more viable means of commuting. We invite you to view our brochure.

Loop Bike Racks
In a continued effort to serve the inter-modal commuter, Cobb Community Transit or CCT is proud to announce that loop bicycle racks have been installed at the Cumberland Boulevard Transfer Center and the Marietta Transfer Center. These racks are designed to be aesthetically pleasing, but are also made of heavy-duty steel to insure that the bikes are secure when not in use. The racks are capable of holding nine bikes and they are either surface mounted or in-ground mounted.
Funding for the loop bicycle racks was obtained through Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) funds. The
loop bicycle racks were also acquired as part of the Bikes-on-Buses campaign. The entire fleet of CCT buses have
been outfitted with bus bike racks. There are currently plans to install more of the loop racks as park and ride
lots are constructed in the future.
Cobb's transportation planning efforts are geared toward smog reduction as part of the Regional Transportation Plan (RTP). The loop bicycle racks will aid in these smog reduction efforts by encouraging people to use alternate forms of transportation.
