Post
Oak Tritt Road
Post Oak Tritt Road is a Roadway Safety & Operational
Project in the 2005 SPLOST program. This project is to provide
safety enhancements and operational improvements that will
provide for better traffic flow on Post Oak Tritt Road.
Project length is approximately 4.05 miles. The limits of
the project are from Murdock Road to the Cobb/Fulton County
Line. Once completed, the entire project will have continuous
sidewalk along the north side of the road.
The project consists of widening the existing travel lanes
and shoulders to standard widths, providing turn lanes at
key intersections and the addition of curb, gutter, and
sidewalk on one side. Horizontal and vertical alignment
concerns will be addressed, sections of the roadway will
be reconstructed to improve the roadway profile and/or increase
the radii of substandard curves. No additional traffic signals
are anticipated as part of this project. The existing bridge
over Piney Grove Creek will be replaced with a new 2-lane
structure with pedestrian sidewalk. The current substandard
bridge over Harmony Grove Creek will be replaced with 10'
wide x 8' high double box culvert.

Windy
Hill/ Macland Road Connector
The proposed roadway will connect Windy Hill Road to Macland
Road and Powder Springs Road Traffic currently uses several
different routes to get to and from Macland Road/Powder
Springs Road and Windy Hill Road. Some of these include
the use of Callaway Road, Milford Church Road and County
Services Parkway, as well as some neighborhood streets as
a cut-through. During the morning and evening rush hours
these roadways become extremely congested. With traffic
volumes expected to increase the traffic congestion during
peak periods will continue to be a problem.
In order to alleviate this traffic congestion, a limited
access east-west connection from Macland Road/Powder Springs
Road to Windy Hill Road has been proposed by Cobb County.
Cobb County allocated funds through the Special Purpose
Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) for the design, right-of-way
acquisition and construction of this proposed roadway.
In late October of 2006 a design consultant was contracted
by Cobb County to first investigate options to connect Macland
Road/Powder Springs Road to Windy Hill Road and to present
these options to the public. The goal of the engineering
study is to identify one preferred alignment. This is generally
defined as one that will be cost effective, minimize impacts
to residential and commercial properties, as well as, minimize
impacts to environmentally sensitive areas such as wetlands
and floodplains.
A project study map has been developed that identifies three
alternative alignments. This is strictly a broad brush corridor
map and provides a general location for alignments that
are being considered.
